The IEAI is happy to annouce a new project led by researcher Franziska Poszler to be funded by the Notre Dame-IBM Tech Ethics Lab.
Entitled MoralPLai, this project aims to develop and implement an innovative and participatory methodology for teaching, research, and science communication, investigating the impact of AI systems on human ethical decision-making. The project team will conduct qualitative interviews on the potential opportunities and societal risks of employing AI systems (such as ChatGPT) as aids for ethical decision-making and devise recommended system requirements and restrictions. These findings will be translated into a theater script and (immersive) performance.
Each year, the Notre Dame-IBM Tech Ethics Lab releases a Call For Proposals to fund research in tech ethics. The 2024 theme was ‘The Ethics of Large-Scale Models’. This year, 17 projects were selected to receive around $1,000,000 in funding. Each selected project is paired with a Notre Dame faculty member to collaborate on the project.
