On November 3rd, Executive Director of the IEAI, Caitlin Corrigan, and Responsible AI Network-Africa (RAIN-Africa) co-founder Jerry John Kponyo took part in the German UNESCO Commission”s workshop on “Ethical AI in Africa – What role can German development and research policy play?”. Prof. Kponyo gave a presentation on the success of RAIN-Africa and the recently founded Responsible AI Lab (RAIL) at KNUST in Ghana. Dr. Corrigan followed up in a final panel on how German and European research and development funding organizations can better support the development of Ethical AI in Africa in particular. Main points of discussion here focused on flexible funding options, strengthening strategic partnerships, and the importance of keeping up key points of contact that enable relationships between research partners to be effective, sustainable and long-lasting.
