Can AI be responsible?

The TUM IEAI had the pleasure of having Professor Joanna Bryson give a talk at its first virtual Speaker Series session on 14 May 2020. The title of her talk was just as thought-provoking as her presentation itself Artificial Intelligence is Necessarily Irresponsible. Prof. Bryson touched on many subjects including why AI cannot be considered “responsible”, the OECD’s principles of AI,  constitutes intelligence and autonomy and why it matters.

We were able to ask her some brief questions prior to her talk about her lecture, AI ethics, the danger AI poses to data privacy, and its role in managing pandemics such as the current COVID-19 crisis. Watch or read her answers in our in our new Q&A series Reflections on AI.
