The Third Voice, the artistic outcome of the MoralPLai Project, was presented on May 22, 2025, at the Amerikahaus in Munich. Mirjam Novak, Eva Riekenbrauck, Swaraj Oturkar, Stephanie Schulte, Ravi Rege and Joanna Semmelrogge were the six actors who brought the play vividly to life under the theatrical direction of Professor Kresny, with assistance from stage manager Emma Hoffmann.

As the MoralPLai team continues to explore the impact of The Third Voice, we invited the cast to share their experience through a short set of questions, touching on everything from the motivation that brought them into the project, to their evolving thoughts on AI, and the moments from the script that left a lasting impression.

Ravi Rege took on a dual role as both an Employee and a Patient in The Third Voice. Here is an inside look at his journey exploring these roles, along with his reflections on the overall MoralPLai experience.

Enjoy the read!

1. What inspired you to join the MoralPlai project?

For me, the motivation was twofold. As an actor and a director, I am always passionate about connecting with the audience, moving them emotionally and getting them to think deeply. One of my favorite moments is always after a show, when I get to talk directly with spectators, whether it’s in a Q&A or just a casual chat. That exchange of ideas really inspires me. Also, as a citizen of the world and as a father, I have real concerns about how AI is evolving. It might outthink or outsmart us, but it still can’t replace human judgment, empathy or that deep sense of right and wrong that guides our most important decisions. That’s why I was so eager to work with the MoralPLai team, to help bring these questions to life and be part of a conversation that would really matter.

2. How comfortable would you feel taking guidance from an AI chatbot on a personal issue?

I would only treat an AI chatbot as one amongst other sources of information, but would never allow it to ultimately guide my decision-making process. In other words, I would always make sure that, in addition to the AI chatbot, there is at least a 3rd voice (preferably human) in the room that will help me form my own (human) opinion about any personal issue.

3. Has this play influenced your perception of the role of AI in our daily lives, either positively or negatively? If so, in what ways?

The play has influenced my perception of the role of AI in our daily lives, both positively and negatively. On the one hand, I now see even more clearly than before the key strength of AI, which is to help humans become much more efficient in dealing with a wide range of, even complex, issues. On the other hand, I now also perceive much more accurately than before the key danger represented by AI, which is to, at least over time, weaken or even totally disable human judgment. This is particularly concerning for the generations born with AI, which may never get an opportunity to develop their own human critical minds and end up relying far too heavily on AI to guide their decision-making processes, even when key (human) moral values are at stake.

4. If you had to choose just one sentence from the script to keep, which one would it be, and why does it stand out to you?

“I trust you. And me.” This sentence echoes two human voices debating a moral issue and ultimately only using AI as “information” rather than as a moral guide in their decision-making process, which, to me, represents the right way forward.

5. What final thought would you like people to take away from this experience?

Humans should learn how to leverage the power of AI in order to become more effective, but at the same time continue to develop and use their own (human) judgment, especially when moral and ethical issues are at stake.
