In June 2022, the IEAI signed a Letter of Intent with Edge Case Research to promote research and exchange on the topics of AI ethics, particularly as it relates to the assessment and management of risks arising with an AI application. The partnership will focus on a practice-oriented case study analysis through a joint Master’s thesis project.
The thesis’ goal is to provide a clear overview on risks and responsibilities in AI-based systems and a review on their response and mitigation approaches. Example use cases from industry posing high risks and great need for responsibility sharing mechanisms should be identified and analyzed to compare different risk management strategies. For example, case studies such as safety risks in autonomous vehicle systems will be investigated. Ultimately, conclusions on major challenges with and requirements for risk management and responsibility distribution, as well as derived recommendations should be presented.
