Lan Yu, student at the TUM School of Management, is among the seven student assistants contributing to the successful implementation of the MoralPLai Project. Read her reflections on key project topics and learn more about her motivation to join the team.
What inspired you to join the MoralPLai project?
I joined the MoralPLai project because it offered a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of ethics, AI, and human values. This theme is very original. The challenge of integrating moral reasoning into AI systems aligned with my passion for understanding how technology shapes societal norms.
What are your thoughts on combining research with the arts?
Combining research with the arts fosters a holistic approach to complex issues. The arts bring creativity and emotional depth, helping translate abstract research concepts into relatable human experiences, facilitating better empathy and understanding of our point of view.
How comfortable would you feel taking guidance from AI on a personal issue?
AI can provide useful insights or objective data, but I’d still weigh its recommendations against my own judgment and values, especially for emotionally nuanced situations.
Would you consider relying on AI for advice in a moral dilemma?
No, while AI can analyze data and suggest options, moral decisions involve personal values, empathy, and social context—factors that AI might struggle to fully grasp.
What role do you think creativity plays in exploring complex ethical questions around AI?
It allows for imaginative scenarios and innovative problem-solving, helping us visualize potential consequences and devise ethical frameworks that are adaptable to future technological advancements.
