We look forward to welcoming you to a unique theatrical exploration of the responsible development and use of AI chatbots as moral dialogue partners. The play will take place on May 22nd at the Amerikahaus (06:30-08:30 pm, Karolinenplatz 3, Munich), followed up by a thought-provoking panel discussion with distinguished experts who will further explore the play’s themes and key takeaways and an open Q&A, giving the audience an opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the speakers.
Should we rely on AI for emotional support? Should we trust it with our most personal decisions? Can AI provide moral guidance?
Artificial Intelligence is already taking over – or at least assisting with – decisions that were once deeply human. But what does that mean for us? The MoralPLai Project brings these urgent questions to the stage in a thought-provoking performance that blends AI ethics with the raw power of research-based theater.
Led by a team at the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence and supported by an international team of experts from the University of Notre Dame, metaLAB (at) Harvard and the Technical University of Munich, this project transforms real-life ethical dilemmas into a gripping theater play.
With the support of Amerikahaus and funding from the Notre Dame-IBM Tech Ethics Lab, the Friedrich-Schiedel-Fellowship Program at the TUM Think Tank and the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, the TUM Global Incentive Fund, the Tuition Substitution Funds, the Klaus Tschira Foundation as well as the TUM Center for Culture and Arts, MoralPLai bridges rigorous academic research and the arts to explore AI’s impact on human decision-making and open a dialog that aims to engage all the relevant stakeholders: academia, industry, policymakers and civil society.
More than just a play, The Third Voice — the theatrical performance and artistic output of the MoralPLai Project — is an invitation to reflect on, question, and challenge the future of AI beyond academic silos.
The performance, discussion and Q&A will be held in English.
Admission is free, but registration is required.

Be part of a unique fusion of research and theater,
challenging, inspiring and sparking debate long after the curtain falls.
