Building on previous cooperation, the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence and the Amerikahaus are joining forces again as part of the MoralPLai Project.
The project brings together leading universities from Europe and the U.S., such as metaLAB (at) Harvard, the University of Notre Dame/ Notre Dame-IBM Tech Ethics Lab and the Technical University of Munich. It aims to develop and implement a creative approach to conducting, educating and communicating AI ethics research through the lens of the arts.
At the heart of the project is a series of qualitative interviews examining the impact of AI systems on human ethical decision-making. The findings will be adapted into a theater script, set to be performed in Munich in the spring of 2025.
Amerikahaus, the largest institution in Germany dedicated to maintaining transatlantic relations, boasts a rich program of cultural and social events, including theater performances, concerts, lectures, and panel discussions. It also promotes interdisciplinary scientific cooperation. We are pleased to announce that the performance of the play will be hosted at its premises.
“We are thankful to the IEAI for approaching us to support the MoralPLai Project. Exploring the potential and risks of disruptive innovations for societies is the cornerstone of our work, as we sit at the intersection of academic and general audiences. To be granted the priviledge of hosting the MoralPLai Project at our premises is an excellent opportunity to showcase new technologies to the general public. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation in 2025.” Dr. Markus Faltermeier, Head of Programs / Trade and Security at Amerikahaus Munich.
“Our Institute is committed to fostering strategic collaborations, and Amerikahaus is one of our valued partners with whom we have had the pleasure of working. The MoralPLai project brings together academic institutions from Germany and the U.S., offering us a wonderful opportunity to collaborate once again. We are excited to see the performance take place at the Amerikahaus on Thursday, May 22, 2025, right in the heart of Munich, and we would like to thank them for their support in the implementation of this innovative project that aims to address important issues while at the same time move from the usual academic practices and engage with the broader audience.” Christoph Lütge, Director, Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence.
