In the Spring of 2022, the IEAI held a series of events around the use of AI in the military. In a fireside chat in April, the discussion centered around how AI is reconfiguring the battlefield of tomorrow and specifically how AI-enabled drones are playing an increasing role in the Ukraine conflict. In our IEAI Speaker Series with David Barnes, a retired brigadier General of the US Army and former Chief AI Ethics Officer for the US Army’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration Center (AI2C), the conversation focused on humans as the limiting or x-factor in how, when and why AI is used in conflict scenarios. Using these conversations as a starting point, we have published a Brief that takes a look at the use of AI in the military and the questions we need to ask to make sure ethics, and societal impacts are considered as AI plays an increasing role in armed conflict.

Enjoy the read.
