On April 10th, IEAI Associate Research Director Dr. Auxane Boch was an invited lecturer at Université Paris Cité & Sorbonne Université as part of Prof. Katie Evans’ module on Ethics of Cognitive Science.
Entitled From Insight to Impact: Mapping the Psychological Impact of Interactional Systems, Dr. Boch’s lecture discussed exploring the psychological impacts of interactional systems, technologies that span interactive platforms like video games and virtual reality, as well as interactional tools such as AI chatbots and social robots. The lecture highlighted how these systems can act as a ‘pharmakon’, offering both benefits and risks depending on their design, context and usage. Through interdisciplinary workshops and expert consultations, a wide-ranging of effects on social connectedness, cognitive processes, emotional well-being, identity and self-regulation.
