IEAI and Globethics Event: Geneva Peace Week
October 14 - October 18
Peace in the Fourth Revolution: Unleashing the AI Political Potential
As AI technology progresses, its impact on global peace and human rights intensifies. AI’s transformative potential spans security, justice, and governance, fostering transparency and societal advancement. This discussion will delve into AI’s pivotal role in upholding human rights and democratic principles, emphasizing its capacity to foster peace. By leveraging AI’s analytical prowess, we can potentially anticipate and prevent conflicts, monitor human rights violations in real-time, and ensure fair resource distribution.
The focus will center on comprehending and tackling AI’s nuanced challenges within the peace framework, seeking actionable measures to bolster prevention, protection and use the technology for good. This entails crafting ethical guidelines, implementing rigorous oversight mechanisms, and promoting inclusive and equitable AI practices.
International bodies, as seen in recent declarations such as the Council of Europe’s Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy, and the Rule of Law, the EU AI Act, the IPU Charter on the Ethics of Science and Technology, and others, are actively involved, recognizing that navigating AI’s intricate impact on peace and human rights demands multistakeholder collaboration and multidisciplinary expertise.
The outcome of the Panel is to produce a white paper on AI and Peace, synthesizing insights from a pre-event desk-review, Panelists and audience input. This convention will establish a blueprint for responsible AI in politics, prioritizing peace and human rights preservation.
