On September 4, researcher Dr. Alexander Kriebitz, spoke on the panel “AI for Peace and Human Rights” at the Global Ethics Forum 2024 in Geneva, organized by Globethics. The panel discussed the urgent need for an international convention to anchor human rights in AI, including recent UN General Assembly activities and the landmark resolution on AI and human rights adopted in March 2024. The panel also highlighted the Council of Europe’s pioneering work, particularly the first legally binding treaty on AI, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, and discussed the global implications of the EU AI Act.

The Forum follows the IEAI and Globethics-hosted International AI and Human Rights Summit, which was held in Munich on 16 July. The summit focused on developing the “Munich Convention on AI, Data, and Human Rights”, which aims to integrate human rights as normative guardrails for AI.
